Heartbreak in Moscow

Today is a sad day as Arsenal have lost one-nil away to CSKA Moscow. It was hard fought game all the way through and although we dominated possession we were unable to find the back of the net. Shots were sparse and the ref was unkind, but at the end of the day Moscow brute forced their way over us.

Moscow played rough. Players were pushed upon, the ball was crowded in their half, and they made it difficult to play our passing game. As a result, we had very little chances and couldn’t capitalize on the few that we did. It didn’t help that the pitch had more divots than the local public golf course and that half of the grass was dead or dying. Moscow had some very good opportunities and managed to sink an early free kick that snuck right between a turning Fabregas and Djourou. Unfortunate, lucky, a fluke. Call it what you will, but we lost.

The balls of this referee. The cojones of this man. To accuse Henry of an intentional hand ball and yellow card him like that is absurd. Henry is one of the classiest and most honest players around, he would never intentionally hand the ball. Besides, the cunt of a ref had his back completely turned to the play so how could he possibly have seen it? The linesmen had a better view of it, and he didn’t raise his flag. The goal should have stood. End of story.

Maybe Spanish referee Manuel Enrique Mejuto Gonzalez can see something in Henry that the rest of us can’t?

Henry Chest

I’d like to write a review but to be honest I’m about to pass out from exhaustion. Goodplaya already did a fine job with it, so I’ll just send you there for now. Also, see Arsene’s comments:

The referee has not seen anything. I felt it was a goal. We have to accept sometimes the referee give goals because they do not see things. Tonight we have something new – that they cancel goals because they saw things which did not exist.

Oh well. This is only the qualifiers, and we’re already in possession of a meaty 6 points. Hopefully we can recover and continue on, starting with a home win against this Moscow boys. Hopefully they won’t be able to handle a real pitch.

Yep, it was just one of those nights. we just didnt get our quick one touch passing going on that shitty pitch until the last 20 minutes. Thought it odd though that Hleb stayed on the pitch and Rosicky taken off, but who am I to argue with AW. The ref made a massive blunder in not allowing Henry`s goal. He opened up his body to catch the ball on his chest. I can understand a ref not seeing something that happened but how can he see something that didnt happen. Was he smokin crack before the game? We might need drug testing for refs?
Am I being paranoid or are we at the wrong end of shite refereeing decisions more than other teams? I hope it wont prove costly in the end. Porto are closing in. This episode should really rile them enough to lift their game and hammer the Ruskies at the Emirates.

  3. “Moscow played rough.”

Bloody yanks shouldnt be allowed to talk about footy!

  4. the only thing arsenal have always lacked in the team is the ideal target man.Look at the strikers we have .Adebayor is not ,neither is van persie,,or maybe the coach does not fancy having one.
The moment arsenal will get a striker that when gets the ball his only objective is to score, one who shoots at goal sight,,,im talking the likes of torres, etoo, rooney, shevchenko,,a striker on the RF to work with thierry, arsenal will be invincible..Defenders always know,,frustrate thierry and the fronline dies out.Just my thoughts anyway.

  5. Good blog, mate… lets get that lot back to the Emirates and sort them out…

  6. At the end of the day, we had a bad game and a bad night in a freezing Russia. Everyone knows it is a tough place to travel to, so it isnt the end of the world.
As long as we get a result on the weekend that is what is more important at the moment.

  7. Haha thanks Goose, I’ll take that as a compliment.

  8. Hello there, it was really a sad one for we fans but little can we do cos the nite was cold and the pitch was bad. The players did all they could except for few occasions that some were very sloppy in taking goal bound opportunities. Sometimes, I get scared of this team cos is it until Henry takes the goals that we can be ahead? We need better and hungry 18 yard strikers in our team. Maybe these strikers of ours are just too comfortable in their positions. We need a natural defensive midfielder cos I get pissed with Gilberto sometimes.

  9. Nice picture of Henry there Will.

Poor Arsenal, playing with so much stacked up against them; the shitty pitch, the cold, disallowed goal, “rough” opponents, etc. The team should be able to warm back up for their match this weekend though.

  10. Loving the picture

  11. can’t see a place to post this but there’s a “Bring back the clock” petition at

  12. Great picture and a good site all round! Keep it up , will be checking it out when I get the chance. No problems with the return leg as North London will not be -5 degrees C and the pitch is a million times better. Also the chances are the new ref will not be suc=h a wanker!!!!!!!

[...] The match, meh. One of those nights. Henry had a perfectly good goal disallowed – I love this picture from Gunnerific (a new blog to me) – and understandably he was upset about the decision and the yellow card he received. He said afterwards: I think it’s a disgrace. I asked the ref what did he see and he couldn’t tell me. He said at the end he didn’t talk about it anymore. He was happy to talk about other stuff with the boss but not that. To give me a yellow straight away – please, look at the replay. [...]
