Wenger Contests FIFA Proposal, Reyes Was Bored
In an immensely uncharacteristic fashion Arsene Wenger has come out against the recently mentioned FIFA Proposal for home-grown players. Who knows what’s next, maybe he’ll come out against the International football schedule interfering with club play? Craziness!
Arsene, as usual, supplies very well through out and reasonable counterpoints to the proposal. To quote the reputable Frenchman,
I would never like to feel somebody is better than me, but sits on the bench just because he does not have the right passport.
He goes on to argue against the proposal with even more lucidity by saying:
You are telling them `yes, okay he is not good enough, but we have to play him because he is from the right country.’ I would like to say, `listen, whether he English, South African, French or South American, he is a good football player’… You say to a player, `you play because you are better’. I have always done that in my life.
I hope FIFA take this to heart. I can only imagine that the rest of the managers, particularly those currently sporting more foreign talent than not, will be on the same page. How could they not?
And in another story Jose Antonio Reyes has explained that he became bored with London. Apparently all of London shuts down at 5pm, and as a result he felt more suited back in Spain. He also goes on to explain that he would be happy retiring at Real Madrid, despite the fact that he is 23. You’re getting a bit ahead of yourself Jose. Either way, at least he left on better terms than Sol or Ashley. I wish him the best.
We’ve got a full line-up of matches this weekend as Arsenal play West Ham away on Sunday. In the States you can catch the match on Setanta Sports at 5:25am PST. I’ll be up bright and early. Everyone’s go to do their part.
We’ve currently got Portsmouth, Bolton, Chelsea, and Manchester above us in the table. Man U play Portsmouth at home, so we can give Manchester 3 points. Chelsea are away to Tottenham, and that could be a win or draw for Chelsea. Bolton host Wigan at home, so let’s all hope that the Latics can take a win or at least hold them for a draw. We could end up in third if everything goes right. If it all goes wrong Everton could overtake us and we could sink down to sixth.
And finally, Thierry, Cesc, Tomas, Robin, Gilberto, Alex, Justin, Kolo, Gael, William, Jens, Matty, Phil, Theo, Johan, and of course Arsene, and anyone else I’m leaving out, good luck this weekend. I’ll be watching at a god-awful early time in the morning, cheering my heart out. I’ll be tuning in 15 minutes early at 5:10am local time. I won’t turn the T.V. off before the final whistle. And no matter what, I won’t boo you, nor will I even think about it. I’ll be screaming my lungs out. I only wish I were there in person. Come on Arsenal!

Hope your feeling better gunnerrific. As for London shutting down at 5pm, my days at one at a constituent college of the University of London recall it being FAR too hopping at 5pm, and hence far to dead later on. Also, recent lifting of 10pm closing times hasn’t fixed everything just yet.
West Ham being close to my heart (because, you know, I could actually afford tickets to their games), I hope we beat them by just one.
The 6 player rule would be a truely sad thing.
