Aliade-underrated

While our main blogger Will has been mauled by an elephant or some other sufficient excuse for neglecting Gunnerrific, I’m going to try to put a few posts up. No guarantees they won’t be complete shit, but at least they are words on a page. This being my first post here, it might not be wise go out on a limb with an opinion that could prove to be unpopular but I’m going to go ahead and do it anyway.

Jeremie AliadiereI like Aliadiere better than Adebayor.

Don’t get me wrong, Adebayor is a fantastic player at times and he’s come through in some very important situations (his winning goal away against Man U immediately comes to mind), but I get tense watching him these days. It seems like more often than not his first touch betrays him and he gives the ball up when with a bit more control he could be set up in front of the goal with a good scoring opportunity.

Jeremie’s last few appearances and especially his work this season in getting us to the Carling Cup final have been phenomenal. His skill, vision, and ability to play in teammates is something I don’t see as much in Ade. It was quite something to watch he and Baptista work together to tear Liverpool apart in that 6-3 hiding at Anfield in the Carling Cup quarterfinal.

When Jeremie is on the ball and facing the opposing defense, he is confident, controlling, and determined. I don’t see that same sort of behavior from Adebayor, who flails around the ball only to have one touch do him wrong.

As much as I like Aliadiere and want to see him play more (as long as Van Persie and Baptista are both injured) it’s difficult to fully support him knowing how injury-prone he can be. However, I don’t think Wenger is doing him any favors by bringing him on in the 80th minute of games. Ten minutes just isn’t long enough for most players to get into the game and make an impact.

Here’s my plea: let Jeremie start a few games up front with Thierry and see if he doesn’t make a worthwhile contribution. I don’t think he’ll ever be on the same level as RVP, but as a third choice I think he could be the right man for the job.

  1. finally some recognition for ali. hes the man, and i’ve thought so for a couple of years. hes definitely the “fox in the box” type striker that we’ve been needing since in my opinion, nicolas anelka. aliadiere is a man that wants to score goals.

  2. Aliadiere needs more games under his belt, but if he shows the form of the 6-3 thrashing of Liverpool more often then I don’t see why Arsenal should sell him. He needs to get over his injury-proneness. He has more a striker’s instinct compared to the others, he takes his half-chances well. Hopefully he’ll start to give Adebayor and RvP a run for their money!

  3. Alidiere – what a great name that just rolls off ya tongue eh? anyway back to the topic in hand. Yes I do agree “he wants to score goals” and really wants to play so much for us but le boss won’t give him the starts that I personally think he deserves. He;s been shipped out on loan to that many clubs I don’t think even he knows what training ground to get to anymore lol. He’s got more va va voom so to spk that what adebayour has, ade reminds me of kanu in a way but ade’s got more pressence about him on the pitch. He’ll run round all day as where kanu just stood there like a spare one at a weddin!!! some cl games spring to mind when he was just standing about with a can’t be arsed attitude. anyway go Ali gooooooooo you can do it and the fans are behind ya!!!!!!!!

  4. agree with you that he is a good player, when he was playing with van persie a while back, i kept thinkin he was van persie cos of the skills he was showing. wish wenger would play him right wing while hleb is out, rather than leave him out, hes better suited to it than flamini and i think he could set up a lot of goals from there

  5. Damn right, he’s a good player. Seeing all the comments around to suggest selling him makes me rather sad to not see him fulfil his potentials in arsenal colours. Hopefully from now till the end of the season, he gets some goals followed by a good run of games. I very much prefer him to ade and bap, because his first touch is alot more confident. Go ALI!!!

  6. For me the Portsmouth games summed the situation up. Aliadiere player from the start, the teams performance was terrible, disjointed and there was no drive. At 2-0 down on 55 minutes Aliadiere comes off for Adebayor and he single handedly turns the game around, chasing every lost cause, scoring a goal and even playing ball boy for the opposition keeper.

  7. I too would like to see Aliadiere start with Henry. It would be an interesting partnership at the very least and I honestly believe it could be a positive one. This weekend against a pretty poor Wigan might be a good opportunity to try it out?

Personally i believe there is absolutely no way Aliadiere brings more to our side then Adebayor. Aliadiere has performed extremely well in Carling cup games, and i thouroughlly believe he should start the final, up top with Baps – if fit?! How ever look at the type of player Ali is, first few things which come to mind are his pace, touch, and sharpness, of which in my opinion we have in not just Henry, but Persie as well, and potentially Walcott. Meaning, i don’t think he brings much which we have’nt got. Ade brings a heck of alot to this Arsenal side, his work ethic most noticle, his content with always looking to get the ball on the floor and play, as well as his awareness of the situation around him, is all very impressive i think. Yes his touch lacks composure at times, how ever hes only 21, 2 years younger then Ali, so he deserves the benefit of the doubt. Ade brings something different to the Arsenal strike force, big, strong, can hold up the ball, as well as winning ball’s in air. I think Ade is a better player then Ali now, and having 2 years on the Frenchman i realy believe the Togo born lad has much more potential. As “GILF” said … “The Portsmouth game summed it up”. Aliadiere will be sold in the summer, along with Lupoli. With a 21 year old Ade, an 18 year old Bendtner and a 17 year old walcott, i just think his injury problems have cost him his place.

  9. i rate aliadiere alot. he had a torrid time with injuries but still has alot to offer. he is good with both feet and a hard worker. he is a guy who loves to run at the defence and stretch them. now for him to do those things he needs the ball at his feet, and for much of the games he has had in the prem he was not gettin the ball much. the sheff utd game he atleast tried shootin at goal when Jag was in their goal while everyone kept passin and passin aways. and for that game if baptista took one of the opportunities set up by aliadiere we would have been home free (with baptista gettin all the plaudits). and yes ade does give something different though i am not his biggest fan with but ali is a better finisher than him. jus give him a good run of games and i am sure he will show up and if he does not hey we can always sell him! lol.

  10. van persie is sooooooooooooooooooo hot.
