I have redesigned the site! More wallpapers are imminent. More discourse is to be had. I hope those sorts of things are of interest to you.
According to the illustrious ESPN Soccernt Bacary Sagna believes we ‘play too much football’. I think he’s right. Assuming he means that Arsenal spends too much time ‘playing football’ and not enough time ‘putting the ball in the back of the net’.
A hilariously named website called Zonal Marking (I want to call it Zonal Marketing) provided some insanely in depth coverage of Vermaelen’s poor positioning (via Arseblog). I don’t know that I’ve ever seen someone do such great analysis on a player over several games. The author has screenshots of the games and circles Vermaelen in the areas where his positioning suspect. It’s a great post, and although it’s hard to really be critical of someone just from screenshots I think it’s somewhat accurate.
There’s a notion of maybe moving Vermaelen into a defensive midfielder role, but we already have that spot covered with Song. Perhaps it would be worth a shot in place of Denilson? Or maybe lets just keep Vermaelen where he is as a completely awesome defender save for the occasional slip-up… cause you know, he’s human.

With you on this one. I saw that site myself earlier and was thinking…slow news day eh! What defender doesnt make mistakes, especially while playing with 3 different partners at the centre of defense over a 2 month period! Jeez, hes been a fuckin rock for us this season, often trying too damn hard and trying to do too much. Every once in a while you will get caught out trying to anticipate but read the situation wrong.
Cesc, Vermaelen, Song my 1-2-3 players of the year this season. honorable mention goes to Diaby (still a bit sloppy at times but getting there)
May have a point about positioning in some games-it could improve-but why highlight the few weaknesses in his game when he has so many strengths?
Every player makes mistakes, but he will make many more mistakes if he keeps being in the wrong positions this will cancell all that is good with him.
