The Curse of Barcelona
Barcelona are now our most bitter of foreign rivals. I can’t wait until we play them again, when we actually have a team without any injuries.
Unfortunately that is unlikely to happen given our penchant for easy knocks and breaks.
I will say though that given the number of injuries we had, we did surprisingly well. Some may say that 4-1 is anything but ‘surprisingly well’. I would say that we practically fielded our B team, and against the best team in the world 4-1 is pretty damn respectable.
More to come.

extremely agree with you!!!…but some so called arsenal supporters don’t understand this…..
I agree with you that the performance put up by the Gunners against the full team Barcelona was outstanding despite the fact that 5 main players were injured. We produced our best and if Bendner’s header did not hit the post, things may have been different.
But, if one were to see the Gunners’ performance for the last few seasons, “injury” to key players have been the very reason why we fall and unable to compete with other clubs like ManU and Chelsea and now, with Barcelona. Its painful to see the stupid ManU and Chelsea doing a double against our Club.
Are we gonna continue using injury as an excuse and not win anything for the next few years as well? are we gonna continue praising the level of performance put up by a depleted team due to injury and be content with what we have achieved with depleted team?
Arsene knows well that injury hits us year in year out. But why make do with the makeshift team when few players can be brought in to tighen the fragile defence and the attacking options? At the minimum, the defence MUST have been tightened up but not done. Our defence this year is the worst if one were to look at the number of goals we conceded this time. A once rock solid defence is now too fragile!
Arsenal was cherishing on the fact that we scored the most goals in the EPL, but weeks passed and we now stand third in the list with the margin far below the top 2 clubs.
Are we gonna be like any other team like Spurs & AV who fights till the last but not come out with anything? If Spurs wins the FA Cup, who do you think will have the last laugh?
I do know that nothing changes overnight and with the youth policy in place, we have to wait for few years before a solid team can be formed. But 5 years seem way to long a wait to bring in the trophy.
Teams like Stoke and Birmingham should be crushed with goals in their own turf without any worries but we struggle with the physical game. Are we gonna use the same excuse and lose points against them?
Having said this, i’m still keeping my fingers crossed hoping for ManU & Chelsea to lose few more points and Gunners lift the trophy! Can we deliver? Will the other teams lose enough points to give way to Arsenal? One more month left!
Just keeping things in perspective, the following players were missing from Barcelona’s “full team” as well, but they seemed to handle things OK.
- Iniesta
- Ibrahimovic
- Pique
- Puyol
