Messi is #2, Barcelona are Trolls

THE DAY IS AT HAND.

It’s put up or shut up time for the old Arsenal. Today we host Barcelona in the fabled Champion’s League in a game which surely the entire world will be watching. When we have a global audience for big games like this I get extremely excited and extremely worried.

For one, the lads have the opportunity to really strut their stuff and make what many people say is “the best team in the world” look like a bunch of school kids. On the other hand, “the best team in the world” has yet another opportunity to make us look bad.  Barcelona has become the latest bandwagon team and I just hate having conversations with bandwagoners about Arsenal.

Barcelona Is Number Two

I am crossing my fingers and hoping for a thrilling match in which Arsenal put things to rest.

In other news, Messi says Barca is just number two. Either that or he has a turtle head poking out.

News ahead of a game like this is always frenzied. The last reports out of Arsenal are that Nasri is fully fit and will be starting. This is a bit of a relief. Sagna is still serving the red card ban, so we won’t have our regular back line. This is the one issue we are going to have with our line-up.

Out of the Barcelona camp, Puyol is still injured, which can only be a good thing for us. That mop-haired muppet is a regular in their side, and we’ll certainly benefit from his absence.

And interesting fact out of The Independent is that Messi has never scored on English soil. I’m not sure that really matters, as those sorts of stats are only the sort of thing people like to write about. They don’t hold any bearing on the actual proceedings. Pique has been slightly off form.

I set off to make a Barcelona v Arsenal graphics and things got way out of hand. I ended up making one those images that you would see in front of a boxing match or a UFC fight. It’s only missing some explosions and some gigantic fighting text.

You can see the finished result below, which can be clicked to get a full screen version (1920×1080, perfect for widescreen desktops).

Arsenal V Barcelona

After spending so much time staring at those ugly Spanish mugs, I felt the need to do something mean to them. It took me awhile to figure out what exactly, but suffice to say that I accomplished what I wanted to set out to do.

Here you can see the Barcelona players for who they really are, a bunch of trolls.

If you are both an Arsenal fan AND a reddit user, then I hope you find that extra special.

Come on Arsenal!

The Robin Van Persie Celebration – Wallpaper

Fellow gooners, it has been far too long since I paid respect to Robin Van Persie in wallpaper form. The day of reckoning is at hand. Van Persie shall now be praised on desktops all across the globe.

This new wallpaper shows Robin Van Persie in all his glory as he celebrates yet another in a long list of fantastic goals. After some serious photo enhancing, I added in his name in full text behind him to give this wallpaper that added pop.

Not one to shy away from a perfectly framed photograph, Van Persie can celebrate with the best of them.

Go check out my new Robin Van Persie wallpaper in the wallpaper section.

My loyal readers (all 5 of you) will remember that when Robin Van Persie returned from his latest injury spell, I was dubious. It’s true. You’ll also remember that I asked, or perhaps pleaded, for Robin Van Persie to prove me wrong and make me the fool. Oh did he ever.

He’s been on a tear as of late, scoring goals with the regularity of Thierry Henry in his heyday. In our last fateful game, in which Phil Dowd came back from a 4-0 deficit, Van Persie was unfortunately not the headline of the day. Instead, it was the record 4-0 comeback, and the muddling affairs of Phil Dowd.

Well Van Persie should’ve been the top story, given his stellar performance in the first half, and the several chances that he had in the second. Robin Van Persie is the ideal striker for our team right now, and I hope he continues to put his balls wherever he wants. Namely the back of the net.

Come on Arsenal!

In Arsene We Trust – New Wallpaper

I’ve added a new Arsene Wenger wallpaper to my wallpaper section. Entitled ‘In Arsene We Trust’, this wallpaper is a straightforward photo of our legendary manager with the simple sentence ‘In Arsene We Trust’.

Head on over to the wallpaper section to check out Arsene’s wallpaper.

Arsene’s starting to look like a genuine French philosopher in his old age. Dignified, cool, and intelligent, there’s no other manager I’d want at the helm. In fact, just thinking about somebody else in charge of the squad makes me worry. I’d imagine that’s the same sort of fear that United supporters would have about Alex Ferguson retiring. Anyways, hopefully Wenger wlll stay on forever.

New Wallpaper – The Emirates Pitch

I added a new wallpaper called The Pitch. I started with a simple picture from the stands of a game in progress. After removing all the players and adding some splashes of color and the Arsenal crest, I think I ended up with a beautiful minimalist wallpaper that will satisfy the heart of any gooner. Go take a look and get the resolution you need. I spend way too much time saving them in all those resolutions… ugh.

Sunday was somewhat unique in the number of Premiership results that were draws: all of them. It was sad to see Tottenham unable to break Manchester United’s defence despite having some great possession and plenty of opportunities, and one man up for about the last ten minutes. A draw was still a decent result for us though.

Emirates - The Pitch

On one hand, news of Thomas Vermaelen’s need for surgery is unfortunate. It means we’ll have him out even longer, potentially the end of March. On the other hand, it is good to know that the exact problem is identified and a solution is in sight. Hopefully all will go well and he’ll be back to full strength and ready to play as soon as possible. We’re desperate to have him back.

I heard an interesting stat on the weekly highlights show. Apparently Cesc Fabregas had more touches in the first half of the West Ham match than the entire West Ham team combined. That’s a bit embarrassing for them.

New Chamakh Wallpaper

I just finished uploading my latest wallpaper, featuring none other than Marouane Chamakh. He’s been a welcome addition to the squad and this photo of him was just perfect. Take a look!

New Mobile Resolutions

I’ve added several mobile resolution versions of my popular Arsenal in Gold wallpaper. Go check it out and snag one for your mobile. All my new wallpapers will have mobile versions, and I’ll start adding them to my older wallpapers as well.

Arsenal in Gold became a pretty big hit with the Arsenal fans. I regularly see it on message boards, other sites, and even videos. I figured it would be the right choice to start with mobile backgrounds. I’ve even got it set on my Droid right now.
